Legislation to provide safer boating on Deep Creek Lake

New legislation is in effect changing the use of PFD's (personal flotation devices) on MD waterways. Children age 13 and younger are now required to wear a PFD. Going into effect on October 1, 2010 are new requirements for boat operators.

The new law will require children under the age of 16 to possess a certificate of boating safety education before they can operate a boat AND (1) either be supervised by someone 18 years or older who is also aboard the boat, or (2) be supervised by someone 16 years or older with a boating safety certificate who is aboard the boat.
